Weekend Update

At long last, the Hucklebug Store is now open!  CafePress’s base price for most items is a little pricey, so I only marked them up by a little bit, but feel free to support the Hucklebug by getting yourself a nice mug or T-shirt.

Also, since we are such Facebookies these days, we have created a Facebook Fan Page for the Hucklebug as well.  If you’re a Facebookie too, become a fan!

Damn… the title of this post is “Weekend Update.”

I just assumed…

We watched “Shane” last night.  Not too much into westerns, unless they feature robots and star Yul Brynner.  This was a good one, although the kid creeeeeeeeped me out.  He had the acting chops of Keeanu Reeves on a good day. Why was he nominated for an Oscar??? SHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAANE!

Why do you want to hurt me?

And Siskita, didn’t you also say something about how there was something not very human about Alan Ladd’s performance?

Maybe it was the fact that he was always standing on apple boxes to see eye-to-eye with his co-stars?  I mean, if I were Tom-Cruise-sized and forced to play a hero, I’d be a bit off my game, too.

I don’t want to hurt you Stennie.  I just wondered why the kid was so cross-eyed creepy.  And Alan Ladd was fine, he just didn’t turn human until he became a baddass.  As the goody two-shoes, he kind of fell flat.  Great hair, though.

Good point, Siskita--his hair looked great--I didn’t know they let cowboys have two-tone hair in the old west.  Not that there’s anything wrong with it!  I mean, I think it’s great that there were gay cowboys.

Bet

Stenns,

I TOLD them to give it five stars.

Alan Ladd: Look, ThePete, you crumb bum, I’m a star. Star, star, star. I don’t get a million dollars to act off of apple boxes. I played The Great Gatsby on apple boxes, and I played Col. Jim Bowie on apple boxes, and I played THIS GUN FOR HIRE on some spare wooden planks so if you want this scene played off of apple boxes, well you just get yourself a goddamn stunt man.

(Cribbed, altered from the odd-but-memorable Python sketch “Scott of the Antarctic”. Wait, aren’t they all odd-but-memorable?)

Oo, sounds like you got a wobbly apple box, there, Al!
