I’m just warning you, Bet, if you declare too much that you’re taking Christmas off. You’ll wind up having to rescue a sick reindeer from the pound after a run in with Heat Miser and Snow Meiser. Just sayin’.
Just to clarify my comparison of “There Will be Blood” to a Cohen Brothers movie, I see characteristics in it that are similar to some of the Cohen movies. It takes place in a specific, fairly distinct, time period, contains social commentary, and there’s something a bit “off” about the characters and even the universe of the story. These are all things I see in Cohen Brothers movies. I didn’t say “TWbB” is necessarily a good Cohen Brothers movie. Just that it feels like one in some ways. Think of it as a tie with “Ladykillers” if you must, Bet. Personally, I liked “TWbB” for the same reason I liked “No Country”. Characters did things that kept me guessing, but in a good way. It also reminded me of a Kubrick film.
Aaanyway… Bet, I’m with you on the holidays this year. But then, I never really get into the holidays. I’m always annoyed because I have to stop what I’d rather be doing to do get all stressed about holiday stuff. If the holidays really were about happiness and fun and was stress-free, I’d be fine with it. But it’s always cold, I often have to travel by plane, which I hate, and I can never afford to spend as much as I’d like on presents (which just stresses me out more and depresses me) and on top of that, the anniversary of my step-dad passing is Christmas Eve. So, yay.
All that said, the weather patterns have been merciful on us this year. Usually, it’s in the 30s or so this time of year, but the weekend before Christmas we saw hi 60s in NYC, which was brilliant. We have a friend’s Christmas party we go to every year and usually freeze our butts off on the way because he lives out in Queens, a ways from the subway. So, the weather has been kind to us NYers.
Speaking of which, I hope you have a great Christmas and a Happy New Year!! See you in ‘014!!
Happy New Year ladies!!! Love to the furry ones in all your lives.
I will refrain from unsnapping with you too much on “South Pacific,” seeing as I appreciate it for the classic Musical Theater compositions combined with “racism” commentary, and that it’s a product of its time. And I like “You’ve Got to Be Taught”….but I won’t argue with you. I will not! I refuse to!
Hope the weather these days are being kind to you – we’re being frozen slowly, and I leave for Toronto in a week for Disney Cruise Line! It’s going to be even colder there, and I’m ssssss…ssss..ooo…ssssssoooooooo not looking forward to that aspect of my contract. But please keep ThePete company digitally while I’m away, and I will be listening and commenting when I can find wifi π
