I wish I could say I knew what Alan (F) Arkin had to eat, but I didn’t want to stare, plus I was new to the restaurant and had no clue what much of the items where on the menu. My friend ordered for us and it wasn’t something I normally eat, but was delicious. She said celebs frequent this place a lot.

Heidi – I agree, Mama Mia was crap, but I think those actors didn’t care too much because they are all actors that can go off and do a crap film just for the fun of it. (Or pay the mortgage.) I enjoyed it knowing it was crap beforehand plus I enjoy Abba songs, even though Pierce can. not. sing. But he is pretty to look at! I’ll eventually get to the 2nd one because I like Lilly Collins, who I think plays Meryl’s character at a younger age?

I have an actor’s screening of A Dog’s Way Home today, but I’m not sure I can handle the emotions of it!!! (It’s a movie about a dog that gets lost from his owners and has an adventure on his many miles back home.). I’m preparing myself for How To Train Your Dragon 3 coming out later this month and that will literally gut me to my core with heavy weeping. I’m not ready!!!!!

  2. Kellie says:

Stennie – I would love to read your play – that is so cool that you got to see what you imagined play out on stage!! I felt the same way about Mamma Mia – but I love the songs – and I like to remember Pierce as Remington Steele and Bond – so I tend to give him a pass.

Bet – can’t wait to hear how the bobble-head reveal goes – what a great idea!!

Please send the good luck vibes as we are down to one final audition next weekend for our horn player to get into a music college. Yes, COLLEGE folks. Talk about crying Kelly w a Y 🙁 Every time anything sentimental with kids comes on TV….

We are slowly catching up. We are in the middle of Episode 521.

I wanted to answer your question about Mr. Popper’s Penguins. It was definitely not a national production; auditions were held locally. The day we saw it, a mother and her mentally challenged daughter sat beside us. Her daughter loves penguins and loves the movie; it was neat seeing her react to the stage production. We caught the movie one afternoon and the man/the father has that same look that our Mr. Popper had, so it must be the required look for him! We saw the actor who portrayed Mr. Popper in Richmond in the audience when we went to see Sister Act; actually, we heard him first, recognizing his voice and turned and indeed, it was him.

The VaRep Theatre has 3 locations and a traveling children’s program. Downtown, in a historic theatre, there are two stages — the largest one which is home to the larger productions and a small black box theatre where more avant garde productions, often paring up with other smaller, locally theatres, are held. For instance, Fun Home, which I think someone in the Hucklebug nation recently attended, was there. The children’s theatre is in a shopping center, has seating on 3 sides of a square stage. The fourth stage is in a really old tavern, again with seating on 3 sides of a rectangular stage. We saw an excellent show there in December called “Holmes for the Holidays” with our favorite local actor.

  4. Michelle says:

I agree with Heidi’s assessment of Mama Mia. It sucks very much – but in the way a very old person with no teeth would suck. It ain’t pretty.

AND another one for Heidi – I would like to read your play too. But…you know what would be cooler? Making a “radio play”out of it. You know a whole bunch of people who can act.

I’m going to see The Invisibles in a little while. It’s a German movie about what oh so many German movies that play in the US are about. WWII. It’s about Jews who lived in Berlin, out in the open, after Germany had declared Berlin to be “Jew-free.”

Have a great show ladies! MMMWWWAAAA!

Hello! Surprise announcement to Stennie and other members of the Hucklebug Nation in Washington: Janet, Sue and I are going to Alaska in July. We are meeting in Seattle on Saturday, July 13 and don’t leave for Alaska until Friday, July 19. We would love to try to meet you, Stennie, and any others, maybe on that Sunday, July 14. We are staying in the Queen Anne area of Seattle but will have a car and are open for suggestions for a meet-up. We would also take any recommendations on favorite Seattle restaurants, hikes, etc. We are looking forward to our trip, of course, but also the possibility of meeting some of the Hucklebug Nation.

  6. Doug says:
