Sick Day

Sorry listeners, there will be no new show this week.  Your faithful podcasters are both sick as dogs on their opposite coasts with their completely separate illnesses.  We hope soon to have an Emergency Backup Podcast at the ready in case of last-minute cancellations, but we don’t have it yet.  We shall be back next week, providing we live to tell the tale.

    Hucklebug gotta da flu.

  2. Duke says:

    24 hours after leaving Vegas and stennie goes into gambling withdrawal. It can be pretty rough with the fever, shakes, and all. Hang in there sten and it’ll pass.

    Bet probably caught something while she was standing in the freezing cold breaking her keys off in the screen door.

    Get well soon, both of you! We miss you.

    Cold-Fighting, Alkalizing Soup

    The PH of the body is so extremely important for maintaining a healthy immune system. If you are fighting off a cold or the flu this soup will help tremendously.

      * 3 cups Vegetable broth (Ed. Note: preferably no salt added or very low sodium)
      * 2 cups Distilled water
      * 2 Yellow or Spanish onions, diced into 1 inch pieces
      * 2 Garlic cloves, minced
      * 1 Head of red cabbage, shredded
      * 1 1/2 cups carrots, cut into 1 inch pieces
      * 1 cup celery, chopped (you can use the leaves, too)
      * 4 Ripe tomatoes, cubed (or you can use the no salt added diced tomatoes that come in a can)
      * 1 Bell pepper, diced (I like to use yellow peppers as they add color)
      * 1 tbs. Dill weed
      * 1 tbs. Rosemary, chopped
      * 1 tsp. Chili powder
      * 1 tsp. Red Pepper Flakes
      * 1/2 tsp. Cumin

    In a large stock pot bring the broth and the water to a boil.
    Add the spices and whisk to blend.
    Reduce heat to medium low.
    Add the vegetables.
    Cover and remove from the heat.
    Let stand for five to ten minutes before serving.
    Refrigerate unused portion.

    If you have a cold or the flu this soup will help lessen the symptoms because it works to alkalize the body. When the body is alkalized it reduces the stress on the immune system. Several studies show that bacteria and viruses cannot thrive in an alkalized environment. For the best results have several bowls of Cold-fighting, Alkalizing Soup every day that you feel ill.

  4. Michelle says:

    I’ve been down and out all week too! You’re spreading diseases through the Internets. Which goes to prove that you are indeed popular, AND infected.

    I hope you are both doing better by now. Crystal’s soup actually sounds quite good. Did anyone try it?

  5. ThePete says:

    aww, TheSucky!  I hope you two feel better soon!  Siskita is just getting over (I hope) a cold that snuck up on her.  Sneaked up on her? Luckily, I have yet to exhibit symptoms.

  6. LilyG. says:

    Ooh—if you gave it to Michelle, then I can blame you for giving it to Nick-the-Child-Not-the-Cancer. He’s had a fever all weekend.

  7. Marla Marla Marla says:

    So apparently I caught this either from my first husband, Spanky or Bet…

    I went as far as printimg out the flu fighting soup recipe (I see it has my grandmother’s secret ingredient…I knew it was trustworthy) but alas could not muster up the energy to make a pot of the magic elixer.

    So I sit here, shivering with fever, wrapped in a blanket, just securing my spot for my first shout out from you two in weeks…

    I hope you two are better, and that I will have something to live for on Thursday…
