Listening monday morning on the el. Best part of the week so far!

    So who is Heidi Spencer?

  2. Michelle says:

You haven’t lived until youve done the Sing-A-Long Sound of Music!

NPH- I also saw him in Glee, and he was fabulous. I am also worried about him. Overexposure is dangerously close.

Not having seen “Cool Hand Luke” is nothing to be ashamed of, but it is a pretty awesome movie. The acting, the writing, the social commentary, the cast, it’s pretty solid. Anyone who doesn’t think “Cool Hand Luke” is an awesome movie spends a night in the box.

I have seen “Wizard of Oz” on the big screen. I even saw it at the Chinese Theater. I lived in LA for 14 years. How can anyone live in LA and not have seen it on the big screen? πŸ˜‰

I found “Hudsucker” to be completely overrated. Deus ex machina. Yuck. Then there was Jennifer Jason Leigh, who is great, but (if I’m remembering correctly) her acting style conflicts with everyone else’s. She was a brilliant cartoon character while everyone else was nowhere near that extreme (except maybe “Cool Hand Luke” star, Paul Newman). πŸ˜‰

I don’t care for Facebook, but leave the link of the week where you want, I say.

Heidi, you don’t watch Daily Show or Colbert? Even Colbert?? I thought he was your TV husband? Those are the only news shows we watch because regular news is the most annoying fucking thing to watch, even if you can ignore the actual content of the news. I try watching the news every so often and I’m always surprised at how lame it is.

I enjoyed movie lines–that was fun! Here are some from me, but I think they’re all obvious:

“You came in that thing? You’re braver than I thought.”

“Come out to the coast, have a few laughs…”

“Sometimes nothing is a cool hand.”

“Jack, uh, no offense but… President Kennedy was a white man.” “That’s how clever they are!”

OK, that last one is probably hard.

Sten, you kind of sounded like your voice had been Max-Headroomized this week. Just a little gurgley/high-pitched voice every so often. It didn’t bother me, but I wanted to mention that I noticed.

The Apple was a blast–I hope we can do that again soon!

  4. Am I the only one who thinks THE HUDSUCKER PROXY is one of the better Coens? I absolutely love it, precisely because they ratchet up all the signature Coen elements and quirkiness.

Part of what makes it great to me is its homages (plural) to COOL HAND LUKE. Not only the casting of Paul Newman, but Norville’s mailroom orientation tour wherein “a night in the hole” is replaced with “and they DOCK ya!”

ThePete, I’ll see your Deus ex Machina, and raise you a De gustibus non est disputandum.

I also think CHL deserves much more than 3 stars.

Re: The Wizard of Oz, I have seen it in a theatre, though whether the screen qualified as “big” is another matter; it was the smallest auditorium of a multiplex in Savannah, which seated maybe 50 people. But it was better than seeing it on TV. Plus, it was the first time my wife had ever seen it *at all,* so that was a bonus.
