Excuse the blips. Recital performance. One take, no editing.
Experienced in mortuary science, (Bazinga Bet!) Catching up, photos of/at funerals. Yes, this was/is a thing. Call it a Victorian Hangover as they were absolutely obsessed with death and mourning to the point of having entire stores dedicated to the fashions of bereavement. That said, I think it was Capt. A? who said it became popular with daguerreotypes, consistent with the obsession with death and convenience that it was the method available. Also true, is the fact that it was often the only photo of a person ever taken as this is when gifts of money were bandied about freely. People who normally could not have afforded a family portrait would then have one with the dead guy or, more often than not, the dead baby (double ewwww). This practice continues in pentecostal families, though not often. It remains as mainly a Appalachian thing, as does “eye money” in some circles. Eye money held a two-fold purpose one for holding down the eyelids on the non-embalmed to not creep out the fold at the living room wake, and two, to pay the bargeman at the River Styx or the Sin Eater. Now, there is a movie called Sin Eater, I give it MAYbe a star, but if you can look at it as a documentary… it is effective. Nutshell, pay them man he eats your sins, man who eats your sins is an outcast, but not really. This practice is still going on in places with limited chromosomal divergence in VA, WV, KY, and AR. One would be very surprised at how close to civilization this goes on. (Montcalm, Iaegar, Davy, War)
I do have a penchant for one uppance, and someone mentioned being so drunk they had to hold onto the grass to not let go of the world… mmm hmm try being so drunk you can’t fish. Now that, takes some doing. That’s a pray-to-die hangover right there.
Thank you Stennie for the link, I apologize for the cussin’ I do, but you’re the one who got me hooked…missy.
As to this being a non-thinking podcast? Christ in a sidecar! I need a pen and paper for movies and music, I have to re-listen to catch things sometimes, and I do know some really stupid people who just don’t get the humor that I utterly adore, having unknowingly dragged my sorry ass out of my “dumps” more than once, so you guys are my YOU RULE for the month, Hell, for the YEAR! Smartest white chicks I know for sure.
Jimmy Fallon – love the songs he does with Roots that are “…..with Classroom instruments” – these are absolutely great!! There’s one with the muppets – and the Let it Go song. Funny! I think Call me Maybe was the first I saw and I’m not a fan of that song but I enjoyed that version.
Commercial – Old Lady with her Facebook wall – I have to disagree – I actually think this is hilarious when the lady says “I unfriend you” and the other one is just so bewildered going “that’s not how it works.” I’m sorry but you are wrong on this one π
Stennie – that story about your mom and Sam Adams just about made me pee my pants that was so funny!
Soundtracks:
Boys on the Side – nice selection of girl songs and I really like that Dreams song by Cranberries
Top Gun – Top Gun Theme, Danger Zone, Destination Unknown, Sittin on the dock of the bay, great balls of fire and of course you’ve lost that lovin feeling
Cat People – we have that one and for some reason I could just listen to the strange music over and over
And when I’m in a country mood: Urban Cowboy – Cherokee Fiddle, Could I have this dance, Hello Texas, Nine Tonight, Lookin for Love, Devil went down to Georgia, Here comes that Hurt again, OK – nevermind listing more, they are all good country!!
Movie: Pretty Ugly People with Melissa Macarthy only remotely related to Big Chill in generic theme, and that’s where it ends. Funny, sweet, just right porridge. All in all I made it past the 8 minute kill switch, which has been hard to come by lately.
Hmmm, I googled for Harold Ramis’ son and neither of his two sons have an entry on IMDB. Maybe I’m thinking of some other famous funny person’s son.
Regarding my thises or thats, I’d go with escargot, mainly because I have done in the past and find them thar snails tasty. I can’t bring myself to eat Kermit’s lower appendages. π As for the cartoons, I do mean short cartoons. Sorry, I should have specified. I’d go with Warner Brothers for cartoons, too. Warners has made feature animation, but none have been anywhere near as successful as Disney’s films. Though, I have heard there may be a “Space Jam 2”. >_< I do like really early Disney (short) cartoons from the 1920s and 30s. All of those old 'toons were so weird and whacky whether they were Warner's or any other companies. I think I've mentioned my fondness for Oswald and his early Universals are what did it–they're really fun and weird. In one, Oswald spanks an escaping hot dog on the butt. But pulls its pants down first. Walt was a quirky fella back in the day!
Tex Avery is awesome, Bet–you are so right π He's tied with Chuck Jones for my favorite animator.
That's it for me for this week–better click submit before it's too late! You guys may be recording already!!
