Congratulations on the new site!
Now come on – don’t tease me. I asked you if you were getting sick of the HB because the last couple of shows you did before hiatus, you started off by complaining about having to do the show. I’m glad the thrill is still there.
This is the link to the song Happy: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6Sxv-sUYtM
I picked this song because it is peppy and doesn’t have a lot of lyrics, so synching everyone’s parts together will be kind of easy.
Topics? Lord, I have no idea. It might be time to do a group movie or something though. I haven’t talked to either of you in over a year I think.
Hey – I didn’t realize “Stennieville Light” existed – FUN! I’m going to have to go poke around.
I’m with Stennie on Bad Santa – it’s a hilarious movie, end of story.
Did you think of the Brad Pitt movie that Harrison Ford was in, Stennie? Ford was also in a stupid cop movie with the guy Sierra hates with the dead eyes whose name I can’t remember. Josh somebody… And I must say that Anthony Hopkins is pretty awesome as Odin in the Marvel movies. So, I don’t think he’s quite ready for a Harrison Ford Award yet.
What about Ben Kingsley? I can’t remember the last good movie he was in AND he was in “Enders Game” WITH Harrison Ford.
Good CHRIST I hope you don’t go with GoDaddy!! I’ve registered domains with them because they are cheap, but their website is a mess of sales pitches that are obnoxious and I’ve had web design clients and fellow web designers who have complained about how terrible GD is. I’ve been researching and Namecheap seems to be a pretty solid host with generally pretty positive reviews. Or wait–have you already moved the site? I can’t tell. It looks the same to me.
I am incomplete agreeance on “American Hustle”. π I found it pretty overrated. I would also add that it wasn’t that funny to me, either. I saw it billed as a “madcap” movie and just kept scratching my head wondering where the laughs were. I mean, it was amusing at points, but kept feeling like it thought it was funnier than it was and that it was trying really hard to feel like “Goodfellas” which it didn’t to me. Also, with its title, I kept thinking of the UK show “Hustle” which is also about con artists, but is light and fun and cut really quickly. As a result of that, I kept thinking “American Hustle” should have been more like the UK’s “Hustle.”
I loved old (early) Dave Letterman, too. My college friend Leslie went to a taping and got picked by him to ride a skimobile on a New York City rooftop with Alec Baldwin. It was pretty cool. Maybe a year or two after that I started getting a bit bored as his humor got into Daily Show once Stewart took over. Now I can’t stand any of the other late night shows because they seem so vacuous to me.
Travolta: “Battlefield Earth” was seriously shit. I got to see it for free at an advanced screening sponsored by the Scientologists. It was hilarious because I wasn’t even the guy flipping out during the credits about how bad it was. Some other guy was ranting while surrounded by people smiling and nodding incomplete agreeance. π
Billy Bob: “Monster’s Ball” is his best performance, in my opinion.
Julie Andrews: Wasn’t she married to Blake Edwards at the time she made S.O.B.?
That’s all I got and it’s enough I reckon.
I just watched 20 Feet from Stardom – an acquaintance of mine, Doug Blush, is exec producer. It was really interesting for me to watch, being a solo singer as well as a singer in a group where we give and take the spotlight during shows. I was emotionally connected to the struggle that some singers had with “playing the game” and feeling like they would be killing a part of their soul to be slimy business people just to become the solo singer. It’s important to understand that success does not necessarily mean the same to some singers that “civilians” would think. I also think Darlene Love’s story – the freaking unlabeled voice of the Crystals – is super important, and audiences need to know about the backup singers that make songs thrilling. It points us to appreciate all members of the group and understand that the star may not be the most talented, even if they’re being paid the most.
I got to watch this on our crew channel, and another Documentary I’d recommend is “Six By Sondheim,” which is directed by James Lapine and features interviews concentrated on Sondheim’s writing philosophy, which can be attributed to many forms of writing and not just musical words and music. I’d highly recommend it for writers, musical theater and Sondheim fans, and I cried so many times just because of the music performances.
I’m on a ship and would love to lip synch to a song and help make a music video. I’ve got friends onboard to help too…
Break legs on the Directing gig, Stennie! & It’s never too late to become a nerd!!!
I like Michelle’s idea of Happy – few lyrics and peppy – that sounds about right!!
Topic Idea: Favorite Saturday morning cartoons as a kid.
Love Cosmos – at first I was very worried about that spaceship – I thought – this is going to be stupid – but it’s great. I loved the one where he told us looking at the moon was looking, was it 4 minutes, in the past? Fascinating – that was a great show!! It does make my head hurt sometimes – but I like it!!
Happy 350th!
I really liked the Life of Pi book – have to seek out the movie.
Ice pack – I stumbled upon the ice idea a few years ago from a first aid class. We also go the blue bag for ice. Another hint, particularly at nap time or bed time – get you one of those little rectangles of blue gel or whatever that you put in your lunch box to keep your lunch cold. Those are great in a towel as an ice pack.
