The “Battlefield Earth” screening was just a screening that was held to generate buzz for the film. I got in because my boss at the time was well known for his fandom activities and L. Ron wrote a lot of scifi so L. ron’s minions knew my boss and asked him to gather his own minions to attend the screening and then blog about it to all our friends (which we did, but they wouldn’t be happy about what we said). And the guy rightfully freaking out about how bad the film was happened to be another friend of my boss, not a Scientologist. Scientologists, in my experience shy away from conflict (except Tom Cruise, obviously) so they weren’t about to be critical out loud about the film.

I did not mention “A Brief History of Time”. I think it was Mr. Middlebrow. I mentioned “The Fog of War.”

My understanding of FCC regulations is that they are much lighter on cable than on broadcast TV because broadcast TV uses “the people’s airwaves” where as cable is not. So, I think cable channels can get away with a lot more, though I think they generally adhere to the same rules as broadcast TV to avoid confusing their audience as to when it’s safe to watch if you want to avoid mature-themed programming. That’s my understanding, anyway…

Sten, that is awesome that you have a cousin named Oliver. Though I hope you manage to get Davey Jones to guest star before your show gets cancelled. Though, with that birth story, it could go either way >_<

So, does The Up Series count as reality TV? If so, that'd be tied with Mythbusters for my favorite. And Sierra and I watched and enjoyed "Life After People," as well. I just started a new show that feels like that show called "Evacuate Earth" and it's all about how we would leave if there was a big giant threat that was going to destroy Earth.

And, of course, I am enjoying the new Cosmos, too. I loooved the original, as well. Carl Sagan and Neil deGrasse Tyson are like the old Pope and the new Pope to me.

I may not be around for the next few episodes as I am leaving this weekend to visit Sierra at Sea. I won't be back in NYC until May. so, YAY! I still want my shout out though–I'll listen when I get back!

Sten – love the “does he want to join a band.” That’s a classic!!! I also have a bit of an addition to How its Made and really have to struggle not to linger on the remote when I see more than 2 in a row!! And I also agree, finding one of those machines that’s been working for 100 years is the best!! Engineers are amazing!! That is very cool about Hawking starting to apply himself when he found out he had ALS. Very interesting! I started listening to that audio book – I think that would be easier than reading – but I still only got through a few chapters before I gave up and it expired from the library. I did think it was pretty cool. I think you just have to give yourself some slack that you won’t understand half of it!!

Bet – so glad that Paw got to buy you lunch. I’m sure that’s exactly what he wanted – love it!!! Hope you figured out the gate debacle and have gotten Milo barricaded again!! You did a great job on the topic!! I may have to find your manor house show – very interesting sounding. I’m still trying to get through the last 3 episodes of Downton Abbey this season. Hope you got your taxes submitted without too much more headache!!
